October 2012
Dear Friends:
As summer winds down Diana and I are eagerly looking
forward to cooler weather and the return of many of our
friends from up North. It is also a time for us to sit
back and appreciate what this last season has wrought for
the mission of Miracle Limbs-Courage in Motion, which is
now our “Life” passion. Seven years ago we would not, in
our wildest imaginations, have thought this would be the
path God would choose for us. We are truly blessed, as is
Miracle Limbs-Courage in Motion.
So many great things have happened in the past three
months we want to share some of the highlights in
appreciation of your support. Each and every one of you,
in some way, has contributed to our dream of creating the
first not for profit that truly deals with all aspects of
the needs of an amputee and their family.
In June we flew to Austin, TX for the second time to be
at the First Annual Walk of Courage, sponsored by Pepsico,
Austin Zone. Through the Enable program within Pepsico
which is designed to help the disabled, we were found on
the internet, established a relationship, and had an
incredibly successful event. Over 120 Pepsico employees
and friends showed up in 106 degree weather, to support
us. They are now committed to future walks in Dallas,
Houston and then other cities across the country. We are
extremely grateful to Ray Magruder and Idris Rashid at
Pepsico. Future events will undoubtedly be a great
financial support for Miracle Limbs. This summer,
awareness continued to spread and we were able to begin
assistance to more amputees than in any previous three
month period. We are receiving far more requests through
the internet and hospital systems in Southwest Florida.
The efforts of our Steering Committee, who develop support
networks for us in in the funding and press communities,
hospital systems, school systems and event planning have
also been key. If you have any interest in being a part of
this group, please contact Diana at 239-300-8156.
We are thrilled to once again be hosted by Hamilton
Harbor Yacht Club as their signature charity, for the
Fourth Annual All Species Fishing Tournament to be held on
Nov. 3rd. Planning has gone on all summer. It is
Gentleman’s start, 20 scoring species with a maximum of 4
anglers per boat. Captain’s meeting will be Nov 2nd at
MarineMax. This year we will add a great element in that
we are requesting corporate and private sponsorships of
boats to allow amputees to be included in the tournament.
For more details on registration or sponsorship go to our
web site or call us at 239-591-8393! Pre-registration
deadline is October 24th. Sponsorship deadline is October
8. We are proud to announce a key addition to our Board
of Directors. Gordon Kellam, First Vice President, Wealth
Asset Management of Merrill Lynch Naples. Gordon has
enthusiastically joined our Board. We are truly happy to
have him and congratulate him on his first born; a son,
Maxwell. With parents like his, Maxwell can truly become a
“Prince amongst men”.
We are happy with our growth and continue to progress
with our strategic growth plan. We are, however, having
trouble keeping our funding up to match the needs of
increased numbers of recipients. More than ever, we need
private funding of any amount possible, so please keep us
in mind.
Hope to see you all at one of our events this year. In
addition to the All Species Tournament, save the date for
the 5th Annual Courage in Motion Bicycle Ride on March
16th!
God bless, Bob
